E-consultation: asking your GP a question
Do you have a non-urgent question for your GP, practice nurse or assistant? Simply ask your question via an e-consultation. An e-consultation is a safe and easy way to ask a non-urgent question. You can do this via the patient portal HealthApp.
You can submit your enquiry at any time of the day. You will usually receive a reply within 1 to 2 working days.
Please note: do not use the e-consultation service to book or change an appointment.
How does it work?
- Log in via the patient portal HealthApp
- Go to Messages.
- Click on ‘+ Message’ and select the healthcare professional you wish to send the message to (for example, your GP or their assistant).
- Enter the subject and type your message. Please make your question as clear as possible. Click the ‘Send message’ button.
- A new window will now open, allowing you to read through your entire message once more. Is everything correct? If so, click the Confirm button. Would you like to make any changes? If so, click Cancel. You can then edit the text.
- You will receive the reply via the portal. You will then see an orange dot next to the word ‘Messages’ in the menu on the left.
When is an e-consultation appropriate?
The e-consultation is particularly suitable for brief, non-urgent enquiries, such as:
- Questions about the results of a medical examination, such as an X-ray or a blood test;
- Questions about skin conditions (e.g. eczema, rashes, spots, moles);
- Questions about medicines: regarding their effects, side effects, and whether to stop or continue taking them;
- Questions about lifestyle, such as weight loss, diet, alcohol consumption and giving up smoking;
- Questions about (physical) symptoms for which you have previously attended a consultation.
When is an e-consultation not suitable?
- To make or change appointments
- In the event of an emergency or if you have any symptoms that need to be assessed quickly, please contact the practice by telephone.
- If a physical examination is (possibly) required. A physical examination is often necessary for new physical symptoms. It is therefore advisable to make an appointment during consultation hours for this;
- For emotional problems. We would prefer to discuss these with you in person.
